Course Goal / Objective
The aim of the Forensic Chemistry course is to provide students with the knowledge and skills to make a scientific contribution to the investigation of crimes using chemical knowledge.
Course Content
This course covers the application of chemical analysis methods to different types of evidence in forensic science. Classification and analysis of narcotic substances, textile and dye examinations, evaluation of fire debris and explosive residues are covered. In addition, comparison of glass, soil and geological traces, examination of interrogated documents and inks are emphasized. Detection of hidden fingerprints using chemical methods and analysis of firearm residues are important components of the course. The identification, comparison and interpretation of evidence using microscopic and instrumental techniques are taught. The course focuses on the reliable reporting of scientific data in forensic processes.
Course Precondition
There are no prerequisites.
