Course Goal / Objective
The aim of this course is to provide students with fundamental knowledge of surgical care processes, enhance their health literacy regarding the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative periods, and develop their ability to access reliable health information, make informed health decisions, and appropriately manage postoperative care.
Course Content
This course covers the concept of the surgical care process, the purposes of surgery, open, laparoscopic and robotic surgical approaches, preoperative preparation, informed consent, patient rights, basic principles of anesthesia, postoperative recovery, pain management, wound healing and wound care, nutrition, physical activity, post-discharge home care, early recognition of postoperative complications, patient privacy, caregiver responsibilities, health literacy, reliable health information resources, real patient experiences, and common misconceptions related to surgical care.
