Course Goal / Objective
The aim of the course is to enable students to access scientific information from an evidence-based perspective, structure research questions, conduct advanced database searches, critically appraise research articles, and manage references using professional tools. The course is designed to provide a direct foundation for students’ graduation projects, theses, assignments, and other academic work.
Course Content
It covers scientific knowledge and levels of evidence (the evidence pyramid), types of articles (original research, narrative reviews, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and case reports), structuring research questions using the PICO framework, databases (PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, TR Dizin, ULAKBİM, and the YÖK National Thesis Center), advanced search strategies (MeSH terms, Boolean operators, and filters), critical appraisal of research articles, indicators of journal quality (impact factor, quartile rankings, and predatory journals), reference management software, citation styles, and plagiarism and academic integrity.
