Course Goal / Objective
To introduce the principles of spectroscopic analysis, atomic and molecular spectroscopy, instrument components, method development, qualitative and quantitative analysis, and practical applications.
Course Content
This course covers the fundamental principles of electromagnetic radiation-matter interactions, as well as the theoretical foundations and instrumentation of major atomic (AAS, ICP, etc.) and molecular (UV-Vis, FT-IR, NMR, MS, etc.) spectroscopic techniques. Throughout the course, students are provided with practical and theoretical knowledge on sample preparation, spectrum interpretation, qualitative and quantitative analysis, selecting the appropriate spectroscopic technique for analytical problems, and method development.
Course Precondition
Resources
1) Explains the basic principles of spectroscopy. 2) Classifies atomic and molecular spectroscopy techniques. 3) Interprets the working principles of AAS, ICP-OES, and ICP-MS techniques. 4) Explains the application areas of UV-Vis, FTIR, and Raman spectroscopies. 5) Compares the basic characteristics of XRF, XPS, NMR, and EPR techniques.
