General Information
Mechanical Engineering Department has been established in 1978 within the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture and started its undergraduate, post graduate and doctoral educations in 1979, 1982 and 1984, respectively. Nearly 1000 undergraduate and 200 postgraduate students continue their education in our department. All courses are being taught in English for both undergraduate and postgraduate trainings. As of July 2013, 10 professors, 1 associated professor, 3 lecturers and 10 research assistants have been working in our department. There exist a total of 6 divisions in Mechanical Engineering Department, namely Machine Theory and Dynamics, Construction and Manufacturing, Thermodynamics, Energy and Automotive Division. Each division has its laboratory facilities. Besides the scientific researches, both educational and industry-oriented services are being provided in these laboratories.

Goals
Mechanical engineering; It is a general engineering branch that works on the design, analysis, manufacturing and maintenance of mechanical systems using basic physics principles and material technologies and can offer analytical solutions to problems by mathematically modeling physical events and situations. In the Mechanical Engineering undergraduate education program, it is aimed to train engineers who can successfully take part in design, production and application studies in industry and research institutions, are prone to teamwork, have social, economic and professional ethical awareness and are sensitive to the environment.
Objectives
To have a flexible knowledge base that can adapt to new or interdisciplinary technologies, to be able to solve complex engineering problems and to follow, examine and apply innovations in mechanical engineering, by supporting the specialist knowledge gained at the undergraduate level, with original ideas and using scientific research methods.
Specific Admission Requirements
Institutes shall demand for the specific requirements concerning the quotas of the programs for the Turkish and International students from the departments, before the beginning of every semester. In line with the demands from the programs, Institutes announce the canditates about the graduate programs, quotas of Turkish and International students, required documents, deadline for application and other matters. Candidates applying for graduate education apply to the concerned institute with the required documents within specified period. The following are required for application to Graduate programs; students should submit a bachelors degree and Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Exam (ALES); administed by the Higher Education Council of Turkey (YÖK). According to the candidates field of application; a minimum score of 55 or an equivalent score of GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) or GRE (Graduate Record Examination) that corresponds to ALES determined by YÖK is required. ALES scores shall not be taken into consideration in admission to Fine Arts Faculty, Conservatory and graduate programs without thesis. Additionally, the canditate should receive at least 50 on one of the foreign language examinations determined by the Interuniversity Commission or required scores from the examination that the university administers.

Employment Opportunities
There are very wide field of employments that mechanical Engineering graduates can work in the public sector and the private sector. Our graduates can work as technical staff, researcher or manager in many areas that machines are used in. Energy, food, automotive, aviation, textiles, machinery design and manufacturing, the defense industry, automation, air conditioning, ship, and biomedical industries are only a few sectors that department graduates take the opportunity to work. Our graduates also benefit from the academic career opportunities as well as overseas business opportunities.
