Course Goal / Objective

Aim of this course, to provide an introduction to fluid mechanics, properties of fluids, hydrostatics of fluids, understanding of fluids kinematics and dynamics, and to teach how to solve problems on fluid mechanics.

Course Content

Definition of Basic Terminology; fluid, force, mass, length and force units, viscosity, other properties/ Fundamental equations of fluid motion; continuity equation, momentum equation, energy equation-Bernoulli´s equation, dimensional analysis and dynamic similitude/ Pipe flow; equations of motions, friction factor, losses in pipe fitting and values, piping systems, laminar, steady flow, Reynolds number, velocity distribution in turbulent flow/ Transport phenomenon/ Boundary - the concept of layer.
