Course Goal / Objective

This two-semester course gives to students a framework of Mesopotamian archaeology, from the Palaeolithic to the disappearance of the Mesopotamian civilization. The second semester of the course reviews the archaeology of Mesopotamian empires and kingdoms, from the Akkadian through the Neo-Babylonian periods, and then the archaeology of Persian, Hellenistic and Parthian rulers of Mesopotamia until the disappearance of the Mesopotamian tradition.

Course Content

The course examines the archaeology of Mesopotamian kingdoms and empires of the 3rd millennium through 1st millennium BC, and concludes with the end of the Mesopotamian tradition early in the 1st millennium AD.
