Course Goal / Objective

To introduce Newton's laws of motion, their applications to various problems and solution methods of the resulting problems to students who have taken freshman physics and calculus courses in previous years.

Course Content

Newton's laws of motion, momentum, kinetic energy, potential energy, force and conservative forces, Fundamental forces of nature, simple harmonic motion, resonance, Gravitation, central forces, motion under a central force, inverse square law, Planetary motion and Kepler's laws.

LO04 knows how to write the equation for a simple harmonic motion and solves it under various conditions, knwos the concept of resonance
LO05 knows the gravitation and knows how to calculate the force applied by a body of a special geometry to a point particle. Knows the gravitational potential and calculates the potential created by masses of various geometries.
LO06 knows what a central force is and have a knowledge about its basic properties
LO07 knows how to calculate the trajectory of a particle under a central force.
