Course Goal / Objective
The aim of this course is to enable students to understand the fundamental characteristics of scientific knowledge and scientific research and the major scientific paradigms in the social sciences; critically read and evaluate scientific publications; identify a researchable problem; effectively use scientific databases to access relevant literature; critically review and synthesize the literature; identify a research gap; and develop the ability to produce scientific texts in accordance with academic writing, research ethics, and APA 7 guidelines.
Course Content
Knowledge, scientific knowledge, science, and characteristics of scientific research; scientific paradigms in the social sciences; types of scientific publications and the structure of scientific research articles; critical reading and evaluation of scientific studies; identifying a research topic and research problem; developing the problem statement; research rationale and significance; accessing scientific information; academic databases, keywords, and search strategies; selecting and evaluating scientific sources; critical literature review and synthesis; identifying research gaps; academic writing; source-based scientific writing; APA 7 citation and referencing guidelines; research and publication ethics; academic integrity; and the ethical use of artificial intelligence in scientific work.

Current national and international peer-reviewed articles, graduate theses, methodological articles, and scientific publications available through academic databases will be used in the course according to students’ research topics.
