Course Goal / Objective
1. To be able to analyze the cause-effect relations of migration / mobility in globalization. Is able to analyze visible and invisible causes of communication problems caused by this development. 2. The change of social-cultural structures in societies where diversity has grown due to migration / mobility will be discussed with several international examples and theories. Furthermore, how this change influences the functioning and communication of different service organizations will be discussed with theories and international examples. 3. Learning to recognize possible problems in different social layers rooted in migration and mobility and providing solutions to reduce or prevent these problems. 4. Learning to develop solution approachesconcerning communication problems in the area of migration / mobility at international-national and local level.
Course Content
In this module, migration (across borders), mobility; the meaning and types of this, the appearing problems, intercultural communication in the axis of culture and identity and also integration, will be dealt with. With a critical approach, the mutual influencing process between causes and results of migration at a universal, international, national and local level on one hand and political, social, cultural, economical area and employment on the other hand, will be analyzed. In this context, McLuhans enrichment-wealth opportunities and George Orwells danger approaches will be analyzed. Problems and solutions will be discussed within the frame of conceptual / theoretical approaches and critical communication studies. Topics such as globalization, migration, (cross-border) mobility, socio-cultural cohesion, national identity, intercultural communication and interaction, cultural prejudices, social life, cultural conflicts in education and business and social peace and harmony practices in the world will be discussed .
