Course Goal / Objective

Pharmacognosy being one of the disciplines of pharmacy aims to develop a clear understanding of natural products (found in plants,fungi,marine organism and others) that are used therapeutically in medicine.

Course Content

Introduction to pharmacognosy, chemistry of medicinal plants, carbohydrates, glycosides, tannins, lipids, plant enzymes.

LO01 Learn biosynthesis and chemical structure of active compounds in medicinal herb.
LO02 It identifies and analyzes the methods of these active ingredients.
LO03 Know the pharmacological phenomena and mechanisms of these active compounds.
LO04 Learn active compounds used in pharmaceutical industry.
LO05 Identify medicinal plants including active compounds via macroscopic and microscopic studies.
LO06 Students will be able to identify the morphology, cultivation, collection, drying and storage of medicinal plants.
LO07 They will be able to detect adulterants in herbal drugs.
LO08 Students will be familiar with the active constituents of medicinal plants.
LO09 Students will be able to set up quality control procedures for quantitative and qualitative evaluation.
LO10 Students will be able to understand physical and chemical properties, formulas, obtaining and allocation and diagnosis of active compounds.
LO11 Gain the knowledge about pharmacological activity of medicinal plants and active compounds.
LO12 Students will be able to determine certain major components of fixed drug combinations.
LO13 Students will learn about traditional uses of herbal drugs.
LO14 Students will be aware of the special precautions for use (toxicity, allergic reactions).
LO15 Stıdents will gain knowledge of effective uses of medicinal plants according to their chemical content.
