Course Goal / Objective

This course aims to teach the students the first steps of play writing and its development process through review of the plays selected from Ancient Greek tragedies and comedies within the context of the basic principles of dramaturgy.

LO03 Is able to explain the alteration and development process of play writing and tragedy started in Ancient Greek with Aiskhylos, Sophokles and Euripides and comprehend these authors and their understanding of writing/literary.
LO04 Explain the understanding of writing in Ancient Greek Old Comedy and its first important representative Aristophanes.
LO05 Compare Tragedy and Comedy in terms of subject, object, style, aim, methodology from every angle and explain the differences between them.
LO06 Explain the status and importance of the studied plays and their authors in the history of theatre- theatre literature.
LO07 Explain to what extent the studied plays and their authors match with the thought of theatre in their own periods.
