Course Goal / Objective

The course aims to increase knowledge of the complex relationships between gender and politics through study of the concepts and theories developed by political scientists working from a woman-centred or a feminist perspective. The course also aims to encourage comparative work on women and politics which contextualizes the diversity of circumstances of women.

Course Content

This course explores the key aspects of political activism of women in a way that reflects a broader notion of the political. It points to the diversity of sites and practices of political activism of women. It also pays particular attention to feminist debates on citizenship, representation, nationalism, and the role of the state in constructing, maintaining and altering gendered relations of power.
