Course Goal / Objective
To conceptualize cause-consequence relationships of interactions between people and landscapes; to understand environmental risks due to excessive human intervention in ecosystems; To compare the effects sustainable use of landscapes created/to be created by analyzing numerical methods and evaluate them in terms of planning decisions; To introduce students to the basic concepts of landscape management; case studies of landscape management with a special emphasis on coastal zone management
Course Content
Identifying interactions and relationships between man and landscape that cause environmental problems and resource management risks; Traditional and modern tools and methods that are used to determine, prevent and/or reduce the impacts of resource management risks; Relationships between degradation of resources and land use demands; Physical characteristics of coastal landscapes and coastal ecosystems that they support; Decision making approaches that include protection of the coasts and their use: spatial arrangement; National- and regional-scale monitoring of landscapes for coastal management
