Course Goal

The aim of the course is to prepare the student effectively for all kinds of engineering applications of the first and second laws of thermodynamics.

Course Content

Concept and definitions. Pure substance and P-v-T properties. Work and heat. Change of state and state. It's like a balanced phase change. Energy transfer with heat, work and mass. First law of thermodynamics for closed and open systems. Internal energy, enthalpy and specific heats. Second law of thermodynamics for closed and open systems. Entropy. Continuous flow open systems. Open systems that change over time. Availability and irreversibility.
