Course Goal / Objective

The course aims to show the characteristics and rules of the language with examples; help students develop familiarity and skills for expressing their feelings, thoughts, plans, impressions, observations and experiences through written and spoken language correctly and effectively; expand vocabulary through written and spoken texts; develop reading and listening comprehension; develop overall language skills, which are essential to interpersonal communication.

Course Content

Students will be taught how to use the written communication tools accurately and efficiently in this course. There will be exercises on understanding, telling, reading, and writing; types of speeches (panel, symposium, conference, etc.) will be introduced; the student will be equipped with information on using body language, accent and intonation, and presentation techniques.

LO01 Students know the historical processes related to speech and writing, oral and written texts; recognise theoretical and technical concepts; relate these concepts to economic, political, cultural and social structure.
LO02 Students know the relationship between oral and written communication with mass communication and mass media; they analyse this relationship with a critical approach in the context of communication history.
LO03 Students interpret the processes of oral and written expression within the framework of economic, political, cultural and social transformation processes.
LO04 Students will be able to analyse a narrative composed of written, oral, audio and visual elements structurally by dividing it into elements.
LO05 Students have the knowledge and skills to construct and produce oral and written texts. Students establish the relationship between form and content of oral and written media products; analyse these products in technical, aesthetic, ideological and ethical terms.
LO06 Students relate oral and written texts and the use of these texts to different concepts such as consumption, everyday life, identity, belonging, memory, discourse and gender and analyse them critically.
LO07 Students produce written and oral content in different formats for various media. Students plan, design and execute the production and utilisation processes of oral and written media products in various communication media.
LO08 Students transform written and oral ideas into original projects in creative processes.
LO09 Students know the ethical principles related to the field of media and communication.
LO10 Students know the rules and ethical principles related to referencing, quoting and plagiarism.
