Course Goal / Objective

The objective of the course is to be able to enable students to focus on differences of two languages: English that they have been learning as a foreign language and Turkish, their native language. Learners should become aware of the structural similarities and dissimilarities between European languages and Ural Alta languages. Nowadays, the Ministry of Education considers that Turkish language courses as a foreign language should be given to the university students as selective courses in order to make them as would-be-English teachers to teach Turkish as a foreign language

Course Content

Teachers cognize the importance of teaching Turkish as a foreign language. Teachers become aware of how to teach Turkish fluently and appropriately to the target learners. Teachers utilize the methods regarding the learners coming from different cultural backgrounds. Teachers teach the target language regarding the communication in either way, daily conversation or academic purposes. Teachers utilize and assess the course materials according to the standards given in CEFR. Teachers have insights to change the parts of materials or course books. Teachers cognize how to and where to insert the necessary items related to cultural diversity and richness. Teachers comprehend how to make Turkish lessons in enjoyable and long-lasting manner.

LO02 TYD students profile, institutitions abroad and in Turkey
LO03 Common European Framework for Refeences (CEF) and Turkish and English Articles related to CEF; articles written in the field so as to make students aware of the issue.
LO04 What is the assessment and evaluation criteria and how is it evaluated in teaching Turkish as a Foreign language
LO05 English and Turkish course books are brought to the class to do the evaluation. They will be evaluated regarding language skills and the criteria .
LO06 Evaluation of CEF and Course books in terms of Perceptive skills. So as to evaluate receptive skills the course books
LO07 evaluation of the Productive skills. to evaluate these skills the course books (English and Turkish) will be gone over by the students in the class.
LO08 Midterm
LO09 Evaluation of the course by the boundaries of CEF. Yet, the communicative language skills within Turkish language course books are evaluated.
LO10 Appropriateness of TYD for CEF Standards and the materials chosen by the students. They will present whatever they have found in the field (materials, theses, articles etc.) and discuss amogn each other.
LO11 Visuals are evaluated by the students who gathered on course books teaching Turkish and English as a foreign laguages
LO12 Common EUropean Framework and foreign Languages and its appropriateness towards teaching TYD.
LO13 CEFR subdivisions level, passport, intercultural values, language, religion, race, self assessment ets and write reports about them.
LO14 Discussion of the groups or prospective teachers preparing projects regarding CEFR
