Course Goal / Objective

To provide the students with graduate level knowledge in the subjects of Environmental Biotechnology in the field of environmental engineering research and study.

Course Content

Understanding biotechnology and environmental biotechnology, Forms of organic matter, Biokinetic parameters, Carbon and energy sources of microorganisms, Taking nutrients into cells and digestion, Factors affecting metabolism, Basic principles of microbial culture, Factors affecting culture, Mathematics of microbial growth, Continuous flow and batch cultures, Principles of processing, Mass balance in activated sludge systems, Process design in treatment plant, Problems and solutions in activated sludge systems, Fate of xenobiotics and toxic substances in the treatment plant, Catabolism of proteins and carbohydrates of oils, Determination of COD components in industrial wastewaters, Photosynthetic processes and environmental engineering.
