Course Goal

To have knowledge about Fiber Optic systems, to analyze the pros and cons by designing a fiber line.

Course Content

Review of electromagnetic theory, Optical Transmitters, Digital modulation techniques, Optical receivers, Step index fibers, Modes in optical fiber, Orthogonality of modes, Graded index fibers, Dispersion, Fiber optic devices, Couplers, Switches, Nonlinear effects, Coherence, Optical sources, DFB lasers, Detectors, Noise in detectors, External modulators, Optical amplifiers, Optical multiplexing techniques, BER determination, Eye diagrams
