Course Goal

The aim of this course is to teach charge transfer in interface and related theories in electrochemical systems.

Course Content

Introduction to electrode reactions, interfacial electron transfer, electrochemical reactions, reaction rate on overpotential, Butler-Volmer equation, polarizable and nonpolarizable interface, kinetic and thermodynamic approaches under electrochemical equilibrium conditions, Nernst equation, some quantitative properties of Butler-Volmer equation, symmetry factor, electrode kinetics in semiconductors, electrolysis, battery and corrosion, overvoltage and its relation with electrocatalytic properties of metals, H2 and O2 overvoltages, electrocatalysis and applications.
