Course Goal

The aim of this course is to explain the use of water resources, their degradation and what can be done to protect it. In this context, it is aimed that the measures to be taken for the conservation and sustainable use of surface waters, the relevant legislation and related concepts are given to the student. Water quality protection plans, water quality monitoring and monitoring studies, definition of water polluting sources, water pollution control regulation, water quality protection plans including prevention of contamination of water resources and improvement of water quality of contaminated water resources will be explained.

Course Content

Water quality, areal pollution source, the scope of the problem, public health effects, quality criteria of irrigation water, importance of water quality in soil and water relationship, salt balance and leaching, leaching requirements, pesticides as water pollutants, fertilizers as water pollutants, sediments as water pollutants , wastewater and industrial wastes and water quality improvement methods.

LO01 Gains the ability to obtain information about water pollution, types of pollution, amount of pollution and classification of surface waters according to pollution levels.
LO02 Gains knowledge of the effects of drought and level, water constraint, water quality on water use.
LO03 Learns to interpret the relevant legal regulations for the control of water pollution and protection of surface waters in terms of quantity and quality.
LO04 To be able to predict the effects of waste water on the water quality in the outlet environment.
LO05 Have the knowledge of the anthropogenic effects on the amount and quality of surface waters.
LO06 To be able to determine the precautions to be taken for the surface waters which are negatively affected in terms of quantity and quality and to determine the legal, technical and socio-economic steps that should be taken to improve the situation.
LO07 Learns planning, coordination, organization, monitoring, audit and sanction activities that will ensure effective use of water resources and control negative effects.
