Course Goal / Objective

The objective of this course is to give the students the basic principles of optical technology at the undergraduate level.

Course Content

Historical development of optics; basic concepts and optical laws; the classification of optical processes; optical coefficients; optical materials; optical properties of solids; optical instruments; optical waves; interference of light and technological applications of the interference; interferometers and their applications; light diffraction and diffraction networks; polarization of light and its applications; light sources - LASER; use of LASER in industry and health; holography and applications; fiber optics; fiber optic systems and applications; optical detectors and screens; optical properties of the eye.

LO07 Explain holography, a special technique in which three-dimensional images of objects are obtained.
LO08 Visually explains the progression of light inside a fiber optic cable.
LO09 Explains the structure of the eye and the visual phenomenon optically.
