Course Goal / Objective

This course aims to teach methods for improving the mechanical properties of soils for the safe and economical construction of engineering structures. It provides students with the ability to recognize problems encountered in weak soils and to select appropriate improvement techniques. It covers the use of mechanical, hydraulic, chemical and physical techniques among soil improvement methods. Modern analysis and application methods are examined in detail in this course. Thus, students have the knowledge and equipment to produce correct engineering solutions in different soil conditions.

Introduction to soil improvement methods, Cement injection, Lime stabilization, Bitumen stabilization, Fly ash, Piles, Stone column, Deep mixing, Jet Grouting, Ground Anchors, Soil Nails, Superficial compaction, Deep compaction, Compaction injection, Preloading, Vertical drains, Geotextiles
