Course Goal / Objective
Children's literature cooperates between disciplines and this is an inevitable requirement for the child to be able to apply the knowledge acquired in the education system to his/her life and to be educated. Children should be brought together one-to-one with contemporary literature products and authors emerging with changing living conditions and an interactive communication should be ensured.
Course Content
The developmental characteristics of children, who are the target group of the course; their feelings, thoughts and imagination worlds will be discussed. Characteristics and importance of children's literature, types of children's literature, historical development of children's literature in Germany and Turkey will be analysed. Children's literature texts and their characteristics, the suitability of the works prepared for children to the child's world, how to give German and Turkish culture and universal values to children through texts will be examined. What is literature? Where is children's literature in general literature? What is the historical development of the concept of child and childhood in Germany and Turkey? What are children's rights? What is children's literature as an introduction to ‘easy’ literature or beginning literature? What are literary norms and concepts for children and young people? Literary and cultural theories, discourses on childhood, youth, old age and generations. What is the importance of interdisciplinary work on children's and youth literature/books? What are the goals and qualities of children's literature? Children's literature and folklore. Can children and youth literature be a role model for young people? What is children's literature between oral and literacy? What is the contribution of children's literature to the field of language and literature education / foreign language learning? What is the contribution of children's literature to foreign language learning through reading skills? Learning Outcomes of the Course: At the end of this course, students will be able to; 1) Contribute to the development of a field of literature for children? 2) Determines the scope and content of literature texts for children. 3) Comments on qualified and unqualified children's literature products
