Course Goal / Objective

This course aims to analyze the functioning of labor markets, labor supply and demand, wage determination mechanisms, and employment policies. Students will gain theoretical and empirical perspectives on topics such as unemployment, trade unions, migration, education, and the impact of technological change on labor markets. The course examines labor economics from both microeconomic and macroeconomic perspectives, helping students understand real-world labor market dynamics.

Course Content

Introduction and key concepts, labor supply: individual and household decisions, labor demand: firms’ employment decisions, wage determination theories and mechanisms, labor market imbalances and types of unemployment, trade unions and collective bargaining processes, discrimination and inequality in labor markets, education, human capital and labor productivity, migration and the impact of globalization on labor markets, technological change, automation and labor markets, flexible work models and changes in labor markets, labor market policies and government interventions, informal economy and informal employment, future labor markets and trends in work life.
