Course Goal / Objective
This course aims to examine the fundamental principles, institutions, and implementation of the European Union’s fiscal and social policies. It will analyze the EU’s economic governance structure, budget policies, taxation system, and regional development strategies, focusing on fiscal integration. Additionally, it will cover labor market regulations, social protection systems, inequality reduction policies, and the EU’s social cohesion strategies. Students will develop the ability to assess key policies shaping the EU’s economic and social integration and interpret current developments.
Course Content
Fundamentals of fiscal and social policies in the EU, EU budget policy and multiannual financial framework, fiscal integration and common fiscal rules, taxation policies and tax harmonization, regional development policies and EU funds, labor market policies and employment strategies, social protection and the welfare state in the EU, income distribution and poverty reduction policies, assessment of health and education policies within the EU framework, gender equality and inclusive policies, the European Green Deal and its social dimension, digital transformation and social policy implementation, globalization and migration policies’ social impacts, the future of EU social policies and reform debates.
