Course Goal / Objective

To teach students the fundemental principles of irrigation systems; evaluation of basic design principles of irrigation systems; means of improving water use efficiency and design irrigation systems that saves irrigation water; establishment basis for design of such systems. In addition, the importance of agricultural drainage, drainage methods, and determining possible solutions to problems in drainage systems.

Course Content

Principles of irrigation; soil-water-plant-atmosphere relations;crop water requirement; irrigation water requirement; irrigation system capacity; irrigation efficiencies; water distribution uniformity; irrigation scheduling techniques; irrigation systems; sprinkler, drip and surface irrigation methods, definition, importance and effects of drainage on soil, drainage problem and solution suggestions in agricultural areas, drainage studies, drainage methods: open (surface) drain and closed (subsurface) drain, Planning and projecting drainage systems
