Course Goal / Objective

The course basically investigates the relationships between economic theory and the aims and functions of urban planning in market economies. The major subjects involve value in physical environment, the formation and distribution of value; the measurement of value in terms of urban land and ownership; relations of rent and diverse approaches brought to these relationships. The planning decisions, the decisions concerning investment, development, regeneration and revitalization; behavioural patterns in property markets,forms of ownership rights, rent control and other control tools are some of the main subjects.

Course Content

Fundamentals of urban economics, urbanization and economic growth, urban planning and land use, urban transportation systems, housing markets and urban transformation, labor markets and employment structures, urban poverty and income distribution, environmental sustainability and green cities, global economic role of cities, economic inequalities in cities and solutions, urban development strategies and policies.
