Course Goal / Objective

The aim of this course is to teach the importance of written documents and the role of learning these writings in illuminating the history of Anatolia.

Course Content

As is known, history begins with writing. The first place where the inscription appeared was Mesopotamia, and it began as an image caption. Later, over time, it changed from image writing to cuneiform writing. There are quite a lot of centers in Anatolia that provide cuneiform and image-written documents. By referring to the history of writing in Mesopotamia and Anatolia, the development reflected in each field will be discussed with the emergence of writing. In particular, the Hittites who founded the first first state in Anatolia and the writing system they used will be explained.
