Course Goal / Objective

To equip students to critically assess objectives, concepts, principles and practice of Coastal Management (ICM) and apply in assessment of options for sustainable use of coastal and marine ecosystems and resources.

Course Content

To provide an understanding of the planning and management of human activities seeking to utilize coastal locations and resources by carrying out practical exercises and case studies in coastal management. To appreciate need for balancing economic, social and environmental solutions in sustainable management of marine and coastal resources. Critical assessment of the objectives, concepts, principles and practice of Coastal Management and their use in the assessment of options for sustainable use of coastal ecosystems and resources. An interdisciplinary approach to understanding planning and management of human activities seeking to utilize coastal locations and resources is adopted.
