Course Goal / Objective
To teach the basic principles of statistical mechanics in detail.
Course Content
Review of thermodynamic potentials; Ensembles, micro canonic, canonic and grand canonic ensembles, Partition function, Classical ideal gas, quantum mechanical harmonic oscillator; Distributions, Binomial, Gaussian and Poisson distributions; Ideal Quantum gases, quantum statistics: Fermi-Dirac, Bose-Einstein and Maxwell-Boltzmann statistics, Interacting systems, lattice gas models, Monte Carlo simulations, phase transitions
