Course Goal / Objective

The aims of this course are; To obtain theoretical knowledge about dialect science, to reveal the place of Turkey Turkish dialects in the history of Turcology, to be able to apply the methods used in dialect studies, to understand the criteria used in the classification of Turkey Turkish dialects, to be informed about dialect atlases, and to be informed about dialect lexicography and dictionaries.

Course Content

In this lesson, we will primarily focus on the concept of "mouth". Theoretical information about dialect science will be emphasized. The past, present and future of Türkiye Turkish dialects within the history of the Turkish language will be discussed. Emphasis will be placed on articles related to oral science. Compilation methods in dialect studies will be discussed. Work on deciphering and transcribing dialect texts will be discussed. Phonological and morphological criteria used in the classification of dialects will be emphasized. The relationship of Turkish dialects of Turkey with historical periods and contemporary Turkish dialects will be emphasized. Focus will be on dialect atlases. Focus will be on dialect dictionaries and dialect lexicography.
