Course Goal / Objective

In this course, it is aimed to make a comparative and in-depth analysis of the public economy and the market economy by examining the structure and functioning of the public economy from various perspectives.

Course Content

Within the scope of the course, the reasons for state intervention in the economy and the question of why the state exists are detailed with the necessary forms and analyzes within the framework of externalities, public goods and natural monopolies, while it is planned to analyze the public sector with public choice theory. While the course will include income distribution policies and cost-benefit analyses, the effects of taxes on income distribution and resource distribution will be discussed with advanced techniques.

LO07 Analyses the economic characteristics of public goods, private goods and semi-public goods and evaluates the role of the state in the provision of these goods
LO08 Analyses the effects of market failures (natural monopolies, externalities, asymmetric information) and government intervention on the economy
LO09 Develop new perspectives that will contribute to the academic literature by conducting original and in-depth research on basic theoretical and empirical problems of public economics
