Course Goal / Objective
The endocrine system is a control and regulation system. Apart from basic metabolic activities such as intake, digestion, absorption, transport and storage of nutrients, it plays a role in many areas such as reproduction, lactation and environmental interaction. With this course, it will be ensured that the endocrine system is closely introduced and the elements it interacts with will be taught and the subject will be examined especially in terms of nutrition of farm animals.
Course Content
Pre- and postpartum feeding practices affect health in ruminants. Metabolic diseases generally occur in the early lactation period when feed consumption is limited and milk yield increases rapidly. On the other hand, some metabolic diseases can trigger another disease or increase the susceptibility to the disease. The course will be able to convey to the students the causes of metabolic diseases that cause economic losses in ruminants, the metabolic indicators that can be followed in milk, blood and urine in the determination of their subclinical forms and the precautions that can be taken.
Course Precondition
General Animal Nutrition and Ruminant Nutrition courses or instructor's approval are required.
