Course Goal / Objective

The purpose of this course is to make the students learn the basic concepts of sociology of social movements ,examine special social movements and do metedological trials on the sociology of social movements.

Course Content

This course covers methodological trials in analyzing specific social movements like riots, Islamist movements, the Kurdish movement, feminism, youth movements, etc. which have emerged as historical-empirical

LO02 By analyzing the historical roots and evolution of social movements, one can compare the characteristics of social movements in different periods.
LO03 Be able to recognize advanced methodological tools, both quantitative and qualitative, used to study social movements and use them effectively.
LO04 Can apply data collection techniques such as field research, interviews, surveys, and media analysis to study social movements.
LO05 By using network analysis in social movements, one can examine the organizational structures and participant relations of movements.
LO06 By examining the dynamics and effects of social movements on digital platforms, one can evaluate the roles of these movements in social transformations.
LO07 Analyze the similarities and differences between global and local social movements.
LO08 Evaluate the sociology of social movements by relating it to theoretical frameworks such as critical theory, conflict theory, and postcolonial approaches.
LO09 By identifying ethical issues encountered in studying social movements, research approaches appropriate to these issues can be developed.
LO10 Based on the analysis of past and current social movements, predictions can be made about the possible dynamics of future movements.
