Course Goal / Objective
The aim of this course is to teach education and training activities in the Ottoman Empire, stagnation and regression in education and their reasons, changes in education with modernisation (Westernisation), developments related to education and training in Tanzimat, I. and II. Constitutional Monarchy periods, restructuring process in education, reforms for the restructuring of madrasas and the stages of education from Ottoman to Republic.
Course Content
From the foundation of the Ottoman Empire until the modernisation process, the education and training activities in Madrasas, Sıbyân Schools and Enderun Schools, which are the most basic educational institutions of the state. The sciences taught in madrasas and the works related to them. Modernisation and centralisation efforts in education and the opening of schools as modern educational institutions. The establishment of Darülfünûn. Reforms related to madrasas. The historical process of Ottoman education from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic and the restructuring efforts in this process and its results.
Course Precondition
To have read about the history of early Islamic education and educational institutions.
