Course Goal / Objective

To provide students with knowledge of wastewater treatment processes and treatment plant design criteria. The course aims to develop the ability to characterize wastewater, assess flow rates and pollutant loads, and analyze the design principles of physical and biological treatment units, including activated sludge systems and other biological treatment methods, for engineering design of wastewater treatment plants.

Course Content

Fundamental principles of wastewater treatment, wastewater characterization and pollutant loads, flow rate concept and its impact on design, wastewater pollutant parameters and analysis methods, wastewater treatment plant design criteria, physical treatment units (screens, grit chambers, sedimentation tanks) and design principles, biological treatment systems and design fundamentals, activated sludge systems and modifications, trickling filters, oxidation ditches, stabilization ponds, and advanced treatment techniques."

Course Precondition

Students are expected to have a fundamental understanding of environmental engineering and water treatment processes.
