Course Goal / Objective

Teaching the theory and practice of separation processes in environmental engineering

Course Content

Introduction to separation processes used in water treatment, separation mechanisms, energy required for separation, liquid-solid and gas liquid separation processes, introduction to mass transfer, mass flux concept, Fick's first law, Stokes-Einstein equation and Brownian motion, calculation of diffusion coefficients Mass transfer models for interfaces, correlation for mass transfer at the interface, two film theory for mass transfer at the gas-liquid interface, diffusion types and the relationship between mass transfer coefficients.
