Course Goal / Objective
Raising awareness and effectiveness on the necessity of going through the impact assessment processes of energy sector activities in line with sustainable development goals
Course Content
Information is given on the definition, principles and process of Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA), which provides a holistic approach in the process of creating policies, plans and programs in the energy sector, as in all sectors with a spatial dimension in the sustainable development process. The necessity of the application of SEA in making planning decisions related to different sectors (energy, agriculture, housing, transportation, etc.) and sample application methods constitute the general course scope. Within this scope, the planning hierarchy and sectoral planning process in Turkey are analyzed and evaluated and associated with the general stages of the SEA. In addition, the planning processes in Turkey and other countries are compared in terms of the applicability of the SEA.
