Course Goal / Objective

Expectations for better quality fabrics and awareness of environmental issues lead to biotechnological applications in the textile industry. In the long term, it is predicted that more and more of the cumbersome and polluting chemical procedures used by the textile industry will be replaced or assisted by biotechnological processes. The aim of the lesson is to recognize the biotechnological applications used in textiles and which the industry needs more and more, and to provide a basis for R&D studies to develop new products in the future.

Course Content

This lesson includes biotechnological approaches for the development of fiber, yarn and fabric properties, the use of enzymes in the textile industry, biotechnological approaches in all production processes of textile materials, biopolymers, biodegradable new fibers and polymers, textile products obtained from bacteria and microorganisms. In the future, it will be explained that biotechnological processes will help to solve the environmental problems caused by the textile industry and reduce the pollution load, and provide new products and new markets.
