Course Goal / Objective
-Lecture, examples of bioactive images, excretion, purification, classification of secondary metabolites, examination of current industrial uses and development of sustainable new techniques in terms of biotechnological applications.
Course Content
Bioactivecompounds (secondarymetabolites), whicharefound in thehighestandmosteffectiveamounts in plantsourcesgrownawayfromallharmfuleffects as in theirnaturalenvironmentwiththeapplicationandwidespreaduse of greenchemistryprocedures, aresecondarymetabolitesthathave a widerange of chemicalfunctionsandstructuresinvolved in allvitalactivities of theplant. Theyprovideplantswithcolour, smellandtaste as well as protectivepropertiesagainstpestssuch as bacteria, viruses, fungiandinsects. Bioactivesubstancesaredividedintosomesubgroupssuch as carotenoids, phenoliccompounds, glycosinolates, lignans, organosulfurcompoundsandplantsterols. Inthiscourse, theclassification of bioactivecompounds, variouspurificationtechniquessuch as extraction, distillationordifferentchromatographictechniqueswithoutcausingdenaturationand how they can be appliedwill be discussed. Withinthescope of thiscourse, awarenesswill be createdabouttheindustrialandbiotechnologicaluses of bioactivecompoundsandtheirapplicationtonewtechniquesthankstotheirmanycharacteristicpropertiessuch as coloureffect, nutritionalproperties, antioxidanteffects
