Course Goal / Objective

Within the scope of this course, the student will be informed about the feed raw material and especially animal protein raw material problems experienced in the world aquaculture sector. Information will be given about insect meals that are likely to be used in fish feed instead of fish meal and plant-derived protein raw materials, and the insects from which they will be obtained. Scientific study examples of insects and insect meals used in feeding various fish will be examined and the commercial usability of the results will be discussed.

Course Content

Recognizing the raw materials used in fish nutrition, fish meal used in fish nutrition and its importance, examination of alternative protein sources in fish nutrition, biological requirements and ecology of alternative and sustainable insects, methods of obtaining raw materials from sustainable insects, examination of the nutritional values of insect meals obtained from insects. Determination of the usability of the flours produced in aquatic organisms.
