Course Goal / Objective

This course aims to teach students the effects and mechanisms of action of drugs at the molecular level and to help students understand how drugs interact with cells and tissues, which molecular pathways they affect, and how these effects lead to therapeutic outcomes.

Course Content

Drug target molecules (receptors, enzymes, pumps, ion channels, DNA, RNA, ribosomes, cytoskeletal proteins)-I, Drug target molecules (receptors, enzymes, pumps, ion channels, DNA, RNA, ribosomes, cytoskeletal proteins)-II, Drugs inhibiting or activating enzyme activity, Drugs affecting ion channel functions, Binding and transport of drugs to carrier proteins, Drug-target interactions, binding affinity and specificity, Drugs causing structural changes in target molecules, Drugs activating or inhibiting signal transduction pathways, Signal Transduction Pathways (second messenger molecules (cAMP, cGMP, IP3, DAG, Ca2+), Protein kinases and phosphatases, Regulation of gene expression (cell growth, differentiation and apoptosis), Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics of Drugs, Identification of New Drug Targets and Drug Development, Analysis of molecular mechanisms of diseases, New drug Determination of targets, Drug design and development processes
