Course Goal / Objective

To provide PhD students with an in-depth understanding of the biological, psychological, and societal aspects of drug abuse and addiction, preparing them to contribute to research, policy, and clinical interventions in this critical area of public health.

Course Content

In-depth exploration of substance use disorders, covering foundational concepts, neurobiology, and the pharmacology of commonly abused substances. It examines risk factors, diagnostic criteria, and the consequences of drug abuse on individuals and society. The course addresses prevention strategies, treatment approaches, relapse mechanisms, and recovery support. Special topics include ethical considerations, challenges faced by vulnerable populations, global perspectives, and emerging research in addiction science, culminating in discussions on future directions for prevention, treatment, and policies.

Course Precondition
