Course Goal / Objective

There are two main aims. The first is to develop direct critical and reflexive thinking skills beyond traditional (spiritual) and empirical (empirical) understandings. The second is to be able to examine and evaluate the aims and functions of education, educational institutions, educational processes, practices and outcomes from different dimensions and perspectives and to develop new views and suggestions.

Course Content

Formation of critical thinking; characteristics of critical thinking; theories and approaches of critical pedagogy; relations between knowledge, science and education; relations between education, civilization and culture; debates on the right to education, educational opportunity and equality of opportunity; debates on autonomy in education, the status of schools according to classes and classes; debates on education and production, education and sustenance, destiny and freedom; education and innovation, education and development; school financing; commodification, commercialization, marketization in education; education, nation, state relations; education and power; school management and democracy (pluralism); control and discipline; education and school types; school types and segregation, school and discrimination; routines and violence at school; education and identity formation; education, integration and ideology; curriculum and implicit programming; achievement, exams, transition between levels; alternative education theories and practices will be examined from different perspectives and with a critical approach.
