Course Goal / Objective

The aim of this course is to familiarize pre-service teachers with the basic concepts, curricula, conceptual difficulties, student errors, and effective teaching strategies in the areas of number and algebra. Candidates create lesson designs based on constructivist approach and learn to utilize technology and representations in learning processes.

Course Content

Overview of the learning areas of numbers and algebra Development of number and operation skills Natural numbers, integers, rational numbers, decimal notation Algebraic thinking, patterns and generalizations Variable concept and algebraic expressions Equation and equality concept Teaching algebra with mathematical modeling Student mistakes and misconceptions The role of representations (concrete, visual, symbolic) in teaching numbers and algebra Educational digital tools and technology-assisted instruction Examples of measurement and evaluation Lesson plan and activity design
