Course Goal / Objective

The aim of this course is to introduce corpus-based approaches in the context of English Language Teaching (ELT) and to enhance students’ ability to analyze and use corpus data effectively. Students will learn to identify linguistic patterns, draw inferences about vocabulary and grammatical structures, and integrate corpus-informed insights into teaching materials and classroom practices.

Course Content

This course explores what corpus linguistics is, types of corpora, corpus tools, word frequency analysis, collocations, pattern grammar, developing corpus-based teaching materials, introducing corpora to learners, using ready-made corpora (e.g. Sketch Engine, COCA, BNC), interpreting data and critical evaluation.
