Course Goal / Objective
The aim of this course is to understand insect behavior in physiological, environmental, and evolutionary contexts. Students will be introduced to key behavioral types such as orientation, feeding, defense, reproduction, and social interactions. The course also aims to explain the internal and external factors underlying these behaviors.
Course Content
In this course, various behavioral patterns exhibited by insects throughout their life cycles will be examined. Orientation and locomotion behaviors, feeding preferences, mating behaviors, social structure, and defense strategies will be discussed in detail. The course will also explain how these behaviors are shaped by environmental cues, hormonal regulation, genetics, and learning. Additionally, the role of insect behavior in practical applications such as biological control and integrated pest management (IPM) will be evaluated.
