Course Goal / Objective

This course examines the physiological, biochemical, and molecular adaptation mechanisms that plants develop to abiotic stresses such as salinity, drought, heat, and heavy metals. The effects of stress on plant growth, yield, and quality are examined. The functions of stress-related genes such as TIFY, bZIP, LOX, and PP2A are introduced. Students are expected to be able to investigate stress tolerance using modern molecular analysis methods such as RNA-Seq, qPCR, QTL, and GWAS. The course also aims to provide an interdisciplinary and analytical perspective for stress-tolerant plant development, molecular breeding, and biotechnological applications.

Course Content

This course will examine the physiological, biochemical, and molecular responses of plants to abiotic stress factors such as salinity, drought, heat, low temperature, and heavy metals. Stress perception, signal transduction, ion homeostasis, osmotic regulation, antioxidant defense systems, hormonal responses (ABA, SA, JA, Pro-Ca), and gene expression mechanisms will be discussed. Applications of RNA-Seq, qPCR, QTL, GWAS, and bioinformatics analysis to identify genes involved in stress tolerance will be illustrated with examples.
