Course Goal / Objective

The aim of this course is to provide students with the principles of climate-responsive design in landscape architecture, to develop their ability to conduct microclimatic analysis, and to enable them to produce sustainable and climate-sensitive design solutions. By the end of the course, students are expected to evaluate design strategies aimed at improving outdoor thermal comfort using scientific methods

Course Content

This course addresses climate-responsive design approaches in landscape architecture within a theoretical and analytical framework. It covers key topics such as thermal comfort, microclimate analysis, urban heat island effect, solar design, wind orientation, and the influence of topography and surface characteristics on climate. In addition, passive design strategies, green infrastructure applications, green building systems, green roofs and façades, as well as climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies are examined. The course also introduces microclimate modeling approaches and discusses data-driven decision-making processes in landscape design.

Course Precondition

There are no mandatory prerequisites.
